Human Resource Module of the Tourism Satellite Account

Produced by Statistics Canada, the Human Resource Module of the Tourism Satellite Account (HRM) provides data on the number of tourism jobs, hours worked, and employment earnings. The information is presented according to job characteristics, and is available for all tourism industries aggregated into five industry groups: transportation, accommodation, food and beverage services, recreation and entertainment, and travel services.

The electronic version of the Human Resource Module of the Tourism Satellite Account, 2010 is available for free.

Up until 2009, the HRM was done only at the national level. At that time, the feasibility of extending the HRM to a regional dimension was explored for the province of Ontario. The study was successful and resulted in the report, Human Resource Module of the Tourism Satellite Account: A Pilot Study for Ontario.

Based on the success of the pilot study for Ontario, a jurisdiction with a relatively large population, the regional module was expanded in 2010 to explore the potential for an HRM in a province of smaller population. With support from the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador, another pilot study was conducted. The resulting report, Human Resource Module of the Tourism Satellite Account: Newfoundland & Labrador is now available.

Following the success of the Provincial pilot studies, the CTHRC continues to work with Statistics Canada and other partners to further develop the regional aspects of the HRM

Report highlights are also available on the Tourism Employment Fast Facts page.
