Labour Market Information

These reports include data about the demographics of the tourism workforce, the characteristics of tourism jobs, tourism employment levels, and productivity in the tourism sector.
This report uses customized Census data to provide employment statistics for each of the industry groups included in the tourism sector, and also includes demographic profiles of the tourism labour force by geography and industry group, for selected occupations.
Produced by Statistics Canada, the Human Resource Module (HRM) of the Tourism Satellite Account provides information on the number of tourism jobs, hours worked, and employment earnings according to whether jobs are full- or part-time. The information is presented according to employee demographics, and is available for all tourism industries aggregated into five groups: transportation, accommodation, food and beverage services, recreation and entertainment, and travel services.
The Labour Force Survey (LFS), conducted monthly by Statistics Canada, is the only source of estimates of employment and unemployment in Canada. As the most up-to-date source of labour information, the CTHRC reviews the data available for tourism industries on a monthly basis.
The CTHRC analyzes productivity trends in the tourism industry, identifies skills changes that may be occurring in tourism occupations, and assesses the impact labour shortages may be having on the tourism industry ability to become more productive.
