Education

The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council supports the tourism and hospitality industry in Canada with educational resources, certification, national occupational standards and human resource best practices all developed in conjunction with industry.
The Council’s secondary and postsecondary learning systems were created to respond to the needs of industry by bringing together tourism employers, labour, government, education, and professionals to identify the exact skills and competencies needed.
Together with industry and education partners, the CTHRC helps develop responsive programming nationwide, with a goal to proactively support learning mobility through articulation and reciprocity agreements.
The following are some examples of how the CTHRC partners with the education community.
Continuing Education/Contracting Education Programs and Private Career Colleges
emerit National Occupational Standards, learning outcomes and training products, along with CTHRC research, can be used to supplement and inform curriculum.
Universities, Community Colleges, and Cegeps
Opportunities exist for articulation agreements with institutions that use emerit training products, national occupational standards, and learning outcomes documents.
Other Educational Credential Granting Bodies (i.e., Apprenticeships)
emerit National Occupational Standards and products can be used as primary or supplemental training material. Earning emerit certification, in whole or in part, may be included as a requirement a learner must achieve to be awarded the granting body’s credential.
Secondary Schools
The CTHRC’s Canadian Academy of Travel and Tourism (CATT) provides students the opportunity to gain tourism specific knowledge and experience while pursuing their high school education.
Students can learn more about the sector on the Discover Tourism website, which offers quizzes, a self-assessment tool, career profiles and a school finder.
