Canadian Tourism Employment Monthly Snapshot – November 2015

In November 2015, the unemployment rate1 in the tourism sector was 6.3%, which is 0.3% lower than the rate reported in November 2014, but higher than the previous month (October 2015) when the unemployment rate stood at 5.8%.

At 6.3%, tourism’s unemployment rate was well below Canada’s seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate of 7.1%.

In the Accommodations, Food & Beverage, and Transportation sectors, the unemployment rate was higher than it had been one year ago.

On a provincial basis, tourism unemployment rates ranged from 3.0% in Saskatchewan to 19.1% in Prince Edward Island.

The seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate for tourism in each province, with the exception of PEI, was similar to the rates reported for the provincial economy. Tourism unemployment was particularly low in Saskatchewan.
