November 25 2011
CTHRC-sponsored Award Recognizes Strong HR Practices of Nova Scotia Destination
(Ottawa, Ontario – November 25, 2011) Nova Scotia’s White Point Beach Resort took home the top prize for Human Resource Development at the Tourism Industry Association of Canada’s Tourism Leadership Summit. The award, which was presented by Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) President Wendy Swedlove, recognizes a business that has demonstrated a commitment to professionalism in the Canadian tourism workforce through professional recognition, training, and excellence in human resource management.
Located on Nova Scotia’s South Shore just a short drive from Halifax, White Point is a year-round oceanfront beach vacation destination. The resort opened in 1928 and its mission is to provide an exceptional hospitality experience by delivering quality service in an atmosphere of comfort, openness and friendship. They recognize that great employees make this possible, and investing in their staff and HR practices has always been part of the business plan.
White Point supports a wide range of local tourism industry initiatives, and offers employees a comprehensive HR program which includes staff recognition, student scholarships and placements, and professional development and training opportunities.
This dedication to maintaining a well-trained, professional workforce is evident in the fact that over 75% of White Point employees hold professional credentials from emerit®, Canada’s most recognized tourism training and certification program.
In addition, White Point is one of only four hotels in Canada to have received ISO 9001:2008 Certification, which is awarded to service industry businesses that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to training and responsible Human Resource Management.
“Quality HR practices are vital to the success of tourism businesses in Canada,” states CTHRC President Wendy Swedlove. “White Point has shown a tremendous commitment to their employees and to proactive HR practices, and their leadership in these areas helps to strengthen and improve the tourism sector in the Maritimes and across Canada.”
