In the Canadian economy overall, employment increased in November, however fewer youths in the labour market resulted in a (seasonally adjusted) unemployment rate of 7.6%.

On September 23, 2010, the Art Institute of Vancouver (AI) and the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) signed a precedent-setting agreement. The agreement recognizes the importance of collaboration and recognition between the education community and Canadian tourism businesses. According to the agreement, qualified graduates of AI’s Event Management program will receive Occupational Knowledge Certificates, which may be put toward their emerit® Event Coordinator certification.

The Queen Margaret University of Scotland was one of the first post-secondary institutions in the world to officially accept and endorse EMICS and educators at the Art Institute of Vancouver have successfully integrated the Standards into their curriculum.

In October 2010, the unemployment rate in the tourism sector was 6.8%. This was unchanged from the rate reported in October 2009.
In the Canadian economy overall, full-time gains continued to offset part-time losses. This trade-off resulted in a (seasonally adjusted) unemployment rate of 7.9%. Canada’s unemployment rate has been around 8% for the past seven months.
