emerit Learning Outcomes: Now Available as Free Downloads

July 23 2009

Select emerit occupational standards have been reformatted into a learning outcome style to better serve the needs of educators developing tourism and hospitality courses. Tourism educators can now download the Learning Outcomes and Elements of Performance at emerit.ca and use them to benchmark the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required from learners in tourism-specific professions. They can also be a practical resource to assist in shaping curriculum development, revision, and articulation.

Learning Outcomes are now available as free downloads in both English and French for four tourism professions: Food and Beverage Server, Food and Beverage Manager, Event Manager, and Supervisor.

Under its Foreign Credential Recognition Program, the CTHRC is currently developing Learning Outcomes for three additional tourism occupations: Line Cook, Small Business Owner/Operator, and Sales Manager.

The development of Learning Outcomes is part of the CTHRC’s larger effort to foster learner and labour mobility for its non-regulated occupations. Learning Outcomes are among the many mechanisms that enable educators and learners to assess, compare, and recognize skills and credentials within tourism occupations. You can visit the Credential Recognition section of the CTRHC website or join the Program Articulation Project to learn more about projects that compare and map learning outcomes for a variety of educational institutions as well as industry associations, both nationally and internationally.
