February 12 2009

Cambridge Suites Hotel of Sydney, Nova Scotia graciously accepted the Hotel Association of Canada’s (HAC) Human Resources Award at Wednesday evening’s annual gala. Sponsored by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC), this award recognizes an individual, team, or property whose human resource practices rank them among the ‘new generation of leaders’ in Canada’s lodging industry.

CTHRC President Wendy Swedlove presented the fifth annual HR award to Michele Bianchini, general manager of the hotel. Conveniently located on the Sydney harbour boardwalk, the Suites provides relaxation and comfort whether travelling on business or for pleasure. Cambridge Suites Hotel prides itself on its exceptional HR practices. Knowledge and training are imperative to both staff and management. Internal and external training programs strengthen employee development, and costs for professional development and certification are fully covered by the Hotel. Cambridge Suites Hotel has been recognized by the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia for having the highest percentage of employees certified in their chosen career through the nationally recognized emerit professional certification program. Aside from training and development initiatives, Cambridge Suites Hotel offers a competitive benefits package, as well as incentive programs that keep staff motivated and enthusiastic. ‘Cambridge Cash’ can be earned by employees engaging in outstanding customer service and ‘WOW prizes’ can be won for guest recognition of outstanding service. These efforts do not go unnoticed; comment cards boast a 97% guest satisfaction rate at the Hotel.

“As an organization that promotes industry sustainability through strong, innovative human resource practices, we are proud to highlight the achievements of businesses such as Cambridge Suites Hotel,” says Wendy Swedlove, CTHRC president. “They have truly shown leadership in human resources and are more than deserving of this nationally recognized award.”

In addition to the Human Resources Award, the HAC’s Hall of Fame Awards of Excellence Program also recognized HAC members that have demonstrated significant accomplishments, exemplary leadership, and tireless commitment in the areas of Humanitarianism and Energy & Environment.
