CTHRC Seeks Banquet Servers for National Occupational Standards Review
July 17 2009
Are you a Banquet Server or have you recently worked as a Banquet Server? Do you supervise Banquet Servers? We’d like to hear from you! The CTHRC is currently seeking participants to help review the
emerit Banquet Server National Occupational Standards (NOS). The NOS document represents the knowledge and skills required to be competent in this occupation. In 2003, a group of experienced Banquet Servers, supervisors, and managers from across Canada reviewed and updated the current NOS. It can be downloaded free of charge at
www.emerit.ca. These standards now need to be reviewed to ensure they still represent an accurate picture of what Banquet Servers actually do.
In June, the CTHRC - in collaboration with Griffiths Sheppard Consulting Group, provincial and territorial tourism human resources organizations, and industry experts - launched a project to conduct norm referencing research. The purpose of this research is to gather information which will determine whether an update to the NOS is necessary, and if so, subsequently aid in developing a framework that expands upon the depth and scope of the skills and competencies related to the Banquet Server occupation.
The CTHRC and our partners understand and appreciate the importance of having these standards reflect the needs and wants of the industry, and therefore feel it is crucial to have experts in this occupation participate in our research. Your commitment would involve completing a 15-minute survey that will allow you to comment on, verify, and validate information about the occupation and the industry. The survey is available in both official languages and can be accessed by emailing tsadler@cthrc.ca. The survey is available until July 31, 2009.
If you have any questions regarding the survey or your participation, please contact Tanya Sadler, Project Manager for Development, at tsadler@cthrc.ca.
